I posted a photo of this chocolate smoothie on instagram, and for some strange reason, it turned out to be my most successful post of all time. So I thought, if nine hundred people liked it, it must be worth posting a full recipe. Although I’m very loyal to my hormone balancing blueberry & cinnamon morning smoothie, every now and then I want to change things up a bit. This chocolate and almond butter smoothie, using my go-to Super Elixir protein powder, is really worth waking up to.
The trick to the perfect smoothie that keeps you full and energised throughout the day is to ensure you’re throwing in a substantial amount of fat (nut butter, avocado, coconut oil), fibre (flaxseed, chia seeds, spinach) and protein (chocolate plant-based protein powder, hempseeds, peanut butter). You also want to stick to minimal fruit – to avoid overloading on too much sugar all in one go, ensuring stable and balanced blood sugar, and thus, balanced hormones. Balanced hormones = happy healthy body.
Ingredients: for one serve
200-250ml (1 cup) of almond milk
1 scoop of chocolate plant-based protein (I can’t recommend the Super Elixir enough)
¼ of a banana
¼ cup of frozen cauliflower
2 tbsp of milled flaxseed
2 tbsp of maca powder
1.5 tsp of Super Mushroom Nutri-Complex (or any medicinal mushroom blend)
1 Simply blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth
2 I topped mine with a touch of vanilla bean coconut yoghurt and cacao nibs.
